Text: Anti-Houthi Forces Respond With Stronger Deterrent Messaging Aseel Al-Saqladi @aselsaqladi, spokesman for the Southern Giants Brigades @alamalikah, one of Yemen’s largest and most capable anti-Houthi forces in South Yemen, accused the Houthis of making false claims about their latest confrontation with Saudi Arabia. The Southern Giants Brigades first gained prominence during the 2018 coalition offensive around Hudaydah and later played a decisive role in recapturing much of Shabwa from Houthi forces in early 2022. Al-Saqladi said the Houthis falsely claimed they had confronted coalition aircraft with missiles and that direct flights between Tehran and Sanaa would continue. According to him, neither claim proved true. He argued that no coalition aircraft were engaged by Houthi missiles and that the Tehran-Sanaa flights announced by the Houthis never materialized. He said the Houthis were never founded to serve Yemen’s interests, but rather to advance Iran’s regional agenda. In his view, the group is willing to sacrifice Yemen and its people in pursuit of Tehran’s strategic objectives. Al-Saqladi also compared the current situation to early 2015, when the Houthis launched direct flights between Tehran and Sanaa shortly before the Saudi-led coalition intervened. He argued that the Houthis are attempting to recreate that scenario to provoke another regional crisis and divert attention from growing public discontent in areas under their control.
