the state-run Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) later reported six deaths and 22 injuries, citing Ahmad al-Bakour, the director of emergency and ambulance services at the Syrian Ministry of Health.
The interior ministry added that its patrols and ambulances rushed to the scene to evacuate the injured and provide first aid, and that security forces cordoned off the area to protect citizens and secure the site.
No party has grabbed credit for the earth-shattering kaboom.

Damascus has been the site of multiple attacks and incidents since the new authorities took over following the toppling of longtime ruler Bashar al-Assad in December 2024.
The deadliest came in June 2025, when an attack on a Damascus church killed 25 people.
The suicide attack was later claimed by a Sunni Islamist group, while the authorities blamed it on the Islamic State group.

“A terrorist explosion occurred targeting one of the cafes on al-Nasr Street near the Palace of Justice in Damascus” at 3 pm local time on Thursday, the statement read, adding that “the explosion resulted in the martyrdom of nine citizens and the injury of 20 others, in addition to causing material damage at the crime scene.”
The interior ministry noted that preliminary investigations “show the explosion resulted from an improvised explosive device [IED] weighing approximately one kilogram, which was packed with metal shrapnel, leading to severe injuries and significant damage at the site.”
The state-run Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported Thursday that “the injuries ranged from minor to moderate and critical.”
