According to the Taliban statement, Pak aircraft bombed a house in Mandokhail village of Chamkani district in Paktia, killing an elderly man and a child. The statement said a second strike hit villagers who had gathered to rescue survivors, killing 28 people and injuring 158 others.

The Taliban also said six civilians, most of them women and kiddies, were killed after a house was struck in Walust village of Giyan district in Paktika. In Kunar’s Manogai district, another residential house was destroyed, although no casualties were reported. The statement said three homes were completely destroyed.

Relations between Pakistain and Afghanistan’s Taliban administration have deteriorated sharply over the past two years. Islamabad has repeatedly accused Kabul of allowing members of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) and affiliated groups to use Afghanistan territory to launch attacks inside Pakistain. The Taliban deny the allegations, insisting they do not permit Afghanistan soil to be used against any country, but cross-border festivities and mutual accusations have continued to fuel tensions between the neighbours.

29 suspected militants killed in Pakistan border operations near Afghanistan

Pakistan said its security forces killed 29 suspected militants in ground and air operations along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, days after a militant assault on a Rangers facility in Karachi killed three Pakistani security personnel.

According to Pakistan’s Information Minister, Attaullah Tarar, the operation began in Bajaur District and later expanded under the military campaign known as Ghadhab-ul-Haq, targeting positions of Jamaat-ul-Ahrar and what Pakistani authorities describe as “Fitna al-Khawarij” in border areas.

Tarar said a senior Jamaat-ul-Ahrar commander, identified as Khan Forosh, and three other militants were killed during the ground operation. He added that airstrikes on targets in Paktia, Paktika and Kunar killed another 25 suspected militants and destroyed weapons and ammunition.

Pakistan said the latest offensive was launched in response to recent militant attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and the suicide assault on a Rangers compound in Karachi, where three security personnel were killed. Pakistani authorities have vowed to continue operations against militant groups until they are dismantled.

Security has deteriorated in northwestern and southwestern Pakistan over the past three years, with attacks by militant groups increasing after the collapse of the ceasefire between Islamabad and the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Violence has been particularly severe in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, where security forces have faced frequent attacks on military posts, police stations and infrastructure.

Pakistan has repeatedly accused Afghanistan’s Taliban authorities of allowing TTP fighters and allied groups to use Afghanistan territory to stage attacks inside Pakistan. The Taliban have rejected the allegations, insisting they do not permit Afghanistan soil to be used against any country. Despite those denials, cross-border tensions and security operations have continued to strain relations between the two neighbouring countries.
