| French student ‘gave speech supporting Hamas attacks’ |

| [COURTNEWSUK.CO.UK] A French student who led an anti-racism group at a London university made a speech supporting the 7 October Hamas attacks just two days after they were carried out, a court heard. Sarah Cotte, 22, is accused of addressing a crowd at SOAS University of London in October 2023 with a speech which invited support for Hamas. She is said to have made the speech on the steps of the School of Oriental and African Studies University of London, where she studying politics, philosophy and economics, on 9 October 2023. Cotte, a French national, denies two counts of expressing support for a proscribed organisation. She was the secretary of the ‘Fight Racism Fight Imperialism’ group at the university. The second charge relates to comments she posted on the group’s WhatsApp chat on 16 October 2023. Prosecutor Frederick Hookway said: ‘On 7 October 2023 Hamas played a leading role in an armed attack on Israel. ‘The attacks were launched from the Gaza strip. The attacks targeted Israeli military bases, civilian residential communities and social events. More at the link |
