[Regnum] Millions of Brazilians received messages from what appeared to be the National Civil Defense Service containing the word "misanthropy" on the night of June 19-20. The agency quickly explained that it was a hacker attack.
Brazil's National Civil Defense Service, in a statement on social media platform X, said the platform that sends out alerts was taken down after a hack that resulted in remote messages from an unknown source being sent to cities across the country.
"The message sent was classified as 'emergency alert' and contained the word 'misanthropy'... This is likely a hacker attack," the agency commented.
According to local media, someone received a more specific message: "Beware: alien attack. People, we have arrived."
Experts explained that work to restore the warning system is underway.
The strange text and audio messages, some of which mentioned an "alien attack," were misspelled.
Previously, hackers from the Cyber ​​Serp group compromised over 200,000 computers in Ukraine using phishing. The group sent malware-infected "security emails" impersonating the Ukrainian state computer emergency response team (CERT-UA).
In 2025, hackers broke into the phone of White House Chief of Staff Susan Wiles. Her number began sending messages containing grammatical errors and in an uncharacteristic tone, along with requests for money transfers and questions about US President Donald Trump.
