[Regnum] A series of earthquakes occurred on June 19 in the Pacific Ocean, off the eastern coast of Kamchatka. This follows from data published on the website of the Kamchatka branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
A magnitude 6.9 earthquake was recorded at 06:52 UTC (09:52 Moscow time) 178 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Another strong tremor, measuring 6.2, occurred at 07:52 UTC (10:52 Moscow time), 175 km from the city.
In just one hour, more than ten tremors were recorded off the coast of Kamchatka. Their magnitudes ranged from 3.6 to 6.9. Most of the epicenters were located 140–180 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
There were no reports of casualties or damage.
Seismologists had previously recorded tremors in other parts of the Far East. On June 12, a magnitude 4.4 earthquake struck 105 km east of Severo-Kurilsk. The city felt a magnitude of up to 3.0 on the Richter scale, with the earthquake's center located at a depth of 37 km.
On June 10, a magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck off the coast of Primorsky Krai, 33 km southeast of the village of Olga. On the same day, a magnitude 5.2 tremor was recorded in Kamchatka, 160 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, as well as magnitude 4.7 and 4.6 earthquakes in the region's waters.
