[Regnum] The United States and Ukraine are discussing a phased ceasefire in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict zone, beginning with limiting the combat zone. This was reported on June 19 by the British publication The Economist, citing sources.
According to them, US President Donald Trump's team is in constant contact with Ukrainian authorities on settlement matters. According to one of the scenarios being discussed, a ceasefire in the conflict zone would be implemented in two stages: first, limiting hostilities to a 50-70 km zone on both sides of the front line, followed by a broader agreement.
One of the sources also clarified that Trump has begun to view the conflict differently, making it more “humanly understandable” for him.
On May 13, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov recalled that to cease fire and open a corridor for peace talks, Kyiv regime leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy must order Ukrainian troops to cease hostilities and withdraw from Donbas. The Kremlin spokesman also noted that Russia and the United States continue to maintain ongoing dialogue on this issue. He added that information is being exchanged with the Ukrainian side through the Americans.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, for his part, noted that Russia is seeking not a temporary ceasefire in Ukraine, but a long-term and sustainable peace that will ensure security for all. The president noted that Kyiv is not yet ready for such a scenario, so Moscow will continue to pursue its goals, but hopes that over time all parties will recognize the need to resolve the crisis.
