[Regnum] Eight people, including six minors, were injured when a Ukrainian Armed Forces drone attacked a bus carrying children from Belarus through the Bryansk region. This was reported on June 17 by the republic's Minister of Health, Alexander Khodzhaev.
"According to current intelligence, eight people, including six minors, have sustained injuries of varying severity. They are being treated in several hospitals in the Bryansk region," he told reporters.
The Belarusian side has sent three intensive care teams to Bryansk, reinforced by specialists from various fields. They comprise a total of 11 people. Together with their Russian colleagues, they will assess the condition of the injured citizens and then decide whether to transport them to the republic or provide medical care on site, Khodjaev added.
The tragedy occurred earlier that day on the A-240 highway. The double-decker bus was carrying 44 passengers, including 28 child athletes from the Gomel region. They were heading to Gelendzhik for a vacation. The Kyiv regime struck the bus using an aircraft-type drone.
According to preliminary reports, a woman accompanying the athletes was killed. The Russian Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case under Article 205 of the Russian Criminal Code for a terrorist act. Investigative Committee officers are investigating the details of the incident and the specific individuals involved. The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has demanded an explanation from Ukraine. The bus passengers who were not injured in the attack are being held in a temporary accommodation facility. They are awaiting an escort from Gomel to return home.
Russian President Vladimir Putin previously noted that Ukrainian troops are deliberately targeting civilians and civilian objects in the Russian Federation. The head of state described the methods used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the Kyiv regime's foreign mercenaries as terrorist. The United Nations (UN) condemns attacks on civilians and infrastructure. This was stated on June 17 by the official representative of the UN Secretary-General, Stéphane Dujarric, commenting on the Ukrainian Armed Forces' attack on a bus carrying children in the Bryansk region.
"We are aware of reports of a suspected drone attack on a bus carrying a Belarusian youth football team in the Bryansk region of the Russian Federation, which reportedly killed one person and injured several others. We condemn all attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, wherever they occur," Dujarric told TASS.
He recalled that such actions are prohibited by international humanitarian law and must be stopped immediately.
