[Regnum] Solar flares of the penultimate power class may occur on June 15 and 16, the press service of the Institute of Applied Geophysics reported.
According to scientists, solar flare activity will be low, but M-class flares are possible. The geomagnetic field is expected to be calm on June 15 and 16, with isolated periods of instability.
On June 5, a plasma cloud from solar flares reached Earth. According to the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a second and third cloud later reached Earth. They caused a moderate-intensity magnetic storm that ended on the night of June 6.
On May 15, a magnetic storm also hit the Earth. Initially, its intensity was G2, classified as moderate. Afterward, its strength began to wane.
Earlier, the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported a solar flare of the highest class, X2.5, the most powerful in nearly two and a half months. The event was accompanied by a plasma ejection, but experts estimate that it posed no threat to Earth due to the direction of the material's movement.
