Herat Religious Scholars Urge Public Restraint After Protests

, dozens of residents and religious scholars in the province have urged people to remain patient and exercise restraint.

Speaking at a gathering, they said citizens should raise their concerns and demands with the government through legal and peaceful channels and avoid actions that could lead to unrest and instability.

There deliberately are no channels to raise concerns with the Talib government, since they come as conquerors pacifying a subject population, not a government by of and for the people that has any care for them other than sheep to be sheared for the benefit of the new ruling class.

Religious scholar Mohammad Akbari said: "If we have a demand regarding any issue, we should share it with the authorities through religious scholars, community elders and local representatives, and pursue it through legal channels."

Another religious scholar, Mohammad Amin Nasih, said: "The trust that has been established between the government and the people must be preserved."

Some Herat residents also said protests should not become a cause of insecurity.

Herat resident Ghulam Hussain said: "Security has improved, and we should live in a way that helps us build our future. Relying on foreign support is not in our interest."

Local officials in Herat say they are committed to addressing citizens’ legitimate demands, but stress that such concerns should be presented to the government in a peaceful manner.

Herat Governor Noor Ahmad Islamjar said: "The doors of the Herat provincial administration are open to any citizen who has complaints about the conduct of the Ministry vice and virtue, the municipality or other security institutions. They can come and share their concerns with us."

Last week, protests by some residents of Herat city turned ~~violent~~ mostly peaceful. Security officials say the demonstrations disrupted public order, but they prevented them from spreading further.
