| [NYPost] The Big Apple erupted in bloody chaos overnight as rowdy mobs celebrating the Knicks’ NBA title trashed NYPD cars and torched FIFA buses in Times Square, leaving 10 cops hurt and 63 people in handcuffs. At least 15 suspects were hit with criminal charges — while a 17-year-old boy also was shot in the foot and four people were stabbed — during the mayhem, the NYPD said. “The vast majority of New Yorkers celebrated appropriately. There were some who did not,” Mayor Zohran Mamdani said Sunday. Charges against the out-of-control revelers iincluded an assault on a police officer by a 28-year-old man from Arlington, Texas, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and obstruction of governmental administration, police said. Shocking video footage showed the Times Square crowd descending on yellow school buses reserved to take soccer fans to FIFA World Cup games at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey — ripping them apart and completely torching one. Hooligans also took bats to NYPD vehicles, lit fireworks in the middle of the massive crowds and blocked traffic on several roads, while several fights broke out, police said. The 17-year-old who was shot in his left foot at West 42nd Street and Broadway told cops he was riding a CitiBike when injured, law-enforcement sources said. The teen was not being cooperative with investigators, they said. |
