"On Friday, the Swedish Incident Response Team carried out two operations using the JAS 39 Gripen to intercept Russian aircraft over the Baltic Sea near Swedish airspace," the Swedish Army said in a statement on social media.
The Swedish Armed Forces claim that the Su-24 and Su-34 allegedly came very close to the country's borders. However, the same post notes that no border violations were committed by the Russian aircraft.
The Russian Ministry of Defense has previously repeatedly emphasized that the crews of the country's Aerospace Forces carry out all scheduled and training flights in strict compliance with international legal norms.
On April 20, two other Russian Aerospace Forces aircraft, Tu-22M3 long-range bombers, conducted a scheduled flight over the neutral waters of the Baltic Sea. They were escorted by Su-35 crews. The flight lasted more than four hours.
