[Regnum] Officers from the Federal Security Service (FSB), together with their colleagues from the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN), prevented a terrorist attack at a penal colony in the Ulyanovsk region. The attack was planned by a supporter of an international terrorist organization banned in Russia ahead of the Eid al-Adha holiday. This was reported on June 9 by the FSB Public Relations Center.
The agency established that a prisoner born in 1985 planned to kill prison staff during a Muslim holiday celebration. He was motivated by religious hatred and enmity. According to the FSB, he intended to undermine the foundations of traditional Islam through the terrorist attack.
The terrorist attack was thwarted at the planning stage. A criminal case has been opened against the prisoner under articles of the Criminal Code for preparing to commit a terrorist attack.
Earlier, on February 4, the FSB prevented a terrorist attack in a penal colony in Kuban.Timely intelligence revealed the identity of the man who plotted the crime, a Central Asian man born in 1980. Law enforcement officers seized the weapons used in the attack.
The man was arrested while attempting to commit a terrorist attack. The FSB Investigative Department opened a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 30, Subparagraph "b" of Part 3 of Article 205 of the Russian Criminal Code ("Preparation to commit a terrorist act").
