[Regnum] Israel has secretly deployed elite units to Azerbaijan to fight Iran. CNN reported this on June 5, citing sources.
According to the report, during the active phase of the armed conflict, several dozen Israeli special forces were deployed in southern Azerbaijan, performing intelligence gathering and drone control missions. Specifically, Israeli forces were stationed just 100 kilometers from Tabriz, Iran, where the airstrikes were carried out.
It is also specified that the key operation carried out from the territory of Azerbaijan was the liquidation of the head of the intelligence unit of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Rahman Moghaddam on March 4.
However, the Azerbaijani Embassy in the United States denied this information, stating that the allegations were unfounded.
The US and Israel launched attacks on Iran on February 28, killing over a thousand people in three months. The Islamic Republic responded with strikes against its adversaries in several Middle Eastern countries. Since early April, Tehran and Washington have been engaged in unsuccessful negotiations. Iran later began blocking shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, and the US, in turn, blockaded Iranian ports.
Nevertheless, US President Donald Trump has repeatedly stated that peace negotiations are progressing very well and are nearing completion. On May 24, he said that a deal with Iran was practically finalized and included the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. Trump clarified that the final details of the document were still being discussed, and he named Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Pakistan among the countries involved in the negotiations. The president also estimated the chances of reaching an agreement with Tehran at 50-50.
