| [AI] **Isaac Asimov’s Three Laws of Robotics**, introduced in his 1942 short story *Runaround*, are a set of hierarchical rules designed to govern robot behavior: 1. **First Law**: A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. 2. **Second Law**: A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law. 3. **Third Law**: A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law. Asimov later added a **Zeroth Law** (*"A robot may not harm humanity, or, by inaction, allow humanity to come to harm"*) which supersedes the original three. While originally a fictional device to explore logical constraints, these laws remain a foundational reference in real-world AI ethics and robotics safety discussions. |
