The Israeli Prime Minister recalled that Hoffman repatriated from the USSR with his parents at the age of 14, and noted that the new head of the Mossad "paved his own way with his own hands."
"When Roman arrived, they pounced on him. A strange kid, speaking with a Russian accent—you know what happens to kids. But Roman forged his own path with his own hands—with both fists—and by the age of 17, he had already become the country's vice-champion in youth boxing," Netanyahu said.
He added that Hoffman's main task in his new post will be to counter Iran's "terrible regime."
Hoffman was born in Mozyr in the Byelorussian SSR in 1976. In 1990, he immigrated to Israel with his family. In 1995, Hoffman was drafted into the Israeli Armored Corps. He later completed officer training and commanded various army units. In 2022, Hoffman became head of the National Ground Forces Training Center, and in 2024, he became Netanyahu's military secretary.
The Israeli Prime Minister decided to appoint Hoffman as head of the Mossad in December 2025. Several other candidates were also vying for the post.
