[Regnum] The peak of the 2026 Perseid meteor shower will be visible on the night of August 13, according to Mikhail Maslov, an engineer at the Vega Observatory at Novosibirsk State University.
“At this time, its activity reaches approximately 100 meteors per hour if you observe them outside the city, under a dark sky,” Maslov noted in a conversation with TASS.
The shower's radiant is located in the constellation Perseus. During its maximum, it will be located quite high above the horizon throughout the hours of darkness.
According to the specialist, observing conditions will improve by morning as the radiant altitude increases. Therefore, more meteors will be visible towards the end of the night.
Earlier, two asteroids the size of the Chelyabinsk meteorite passed close to Earth. One approached the planet at 6:15 PM Moscow time on May 18, and the other came within 91,000 km at 1:00 AM Moscow time on May 19.
