Text: JUST IN: The IDF says it dismantled nearly 7 miles of underground Hamas tunnel routes in northern Gaza. The military released a 3D illustration mapping out the tunnel network, showing the scale of what troops say was uncovered during a major engineering operation. Hundreds of above-ground terrorist infrastructure sites were also dismantled, according to the IDF. IDF says 11 kilometers of tunnels destroyed in Gaza’s Beit Hanoun in recent months [IsraelTimes] The IDF says troops have completed a major engineering operation in the Beit Hanoun area of northern Gaza, during which forces located and destroyed some 11 kilometers (6.8 miles) of tunnel routes used by Hamas. According to the military, forces from the 252nd Division and the Combat Engineering Corps’ elite Yahalom unit operated for months on the Israeli-controlled side of the Yellow Line, carrying out hundreds of drillings to uncover and demolish underground infrastructure, alongside hundreds of above-ground terror sites. The IDF says an additional three kilometers of tunnels had been destroyed in previous fighting in the area throughout the war. The military describes Beit Hanoun as one of the war’s most significant and complex combat zones, and says the area had long served as a major Hamas stronghold, with tunnel infrastructure embedded beneath homes, public buildings and roads. |
