[Regnum] Four members of the British government have resigned, demanding the resignation of Keir Starmer, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. This was reported on May 12 by The Guardian.
Good."This morning, I submitted my resignation to the Prime Minister. I call on the Prime Minister to do what is right in the interests of the country and the party and establish a timetable for an orderly transition of power," the newspaper quoted Minister of Decentralization, Faith, and Community Affairs Miatta Fahnbulleh as saying.
Health Minister Zubir Ahmed, Deputy Home Secretary Jess Phillips, and Minister for Victim Support and Violence Against Women Alex Davis-Jones also resigned from their posts.
However, out of a total of 650 members of Parliament, 111 have expressed full solidarity with Starmer's policies. The prime minister's supporters believe that, in the current situation, a leadership battle within the party is untimely and could destabilize the country.
On May 7, elections were held in Britain for 136 local councils, as well as for the Scottish Parliament and the Welsh Legislature. The elections ended in defeat for the ruling Labour Party, led by Starmer. Labour won only 1,068 seats, a 50% reduction in its share. The Reform Party emerged victorious, securing 1,453 council and parliamentary seats.
Immediately after the election results were announced, more than 30 Labour MPs called on Starmer to resign. MP Catherine West announced she was prepared to stand as a candidate for party leadership if the cabinet failed to take matters into its own hands. On May 10, Starmer told reporters that, despite the election defeat, he intended to remain in power for another 10 years.
Starmer's approval rating fell to 13% in September 2025. Meanwhile, the British prime minister's negative rating (the number of people dissatisfied with his performance) reached 66%, an all-time high.
