[Regnum] A powerful M5.7-class flare occurred in a new active region of the Sun. This was reported on May 10 by the Telegram channel of the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
"Wow, what an explosion. Just happened on the Sun. An M5.7 flare erupted from the new active region 4436 emerging from the far side of the Sun," the scientists reported.
The laboratory clarified that the plasma ejected by the flare will not affect the Earth, but in two days this group of spots will enter the planet's zone of influence.
M-class flares are considered medium-power and are capable of causing short-term radio interference and auroras at mid-latitudes of the Earth.
On April 24, the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported a solar flare of the highest class, X2.5, the most powerful in nearly two and a half months. The event was accompanied by a plasma ejection, but experts estimate that it posed no threat to Earth due to the direction of the material's movement.
On April 25, the Heliogeophysical Service of the Institute of Applied Geophysics recorded two M-class flares —M1.3 and M1.1. They occurred within a few hours of each other and were classified as moderate in power.
