According to the press service of the US Secret Service, which provides security for the country's top officials, posted on social media, X, the unidentified man was shot by a police officer. No details were provided about his condition.
"Avoid the area as emergency services are responding to the incident," the message said.
The shooting occurred at the intersection of 15th Street and Independence Avenue. This intersection is located between the Washington Monument and the Holocaust Memorial Museum, approximately 400-500 meters from the south entrance to the presidential residence. Consequently, entry and exit to the White House grounds were immediately closed. Law enforcement officers cordoned off the complex.
