[Korrespondent] A key role in the Russian onslaught is played by Golubivka, a settlement near the city, a spokesman for the Joint Forces Group explained.
The Russians are throwing large forces on the approaches to Kupyansk and already partially control the village north of the city. Two factors are helping them in this, said Viktor Tregubov, spokesman for the Joint Forces Group, on the air of United News.
"They were accumulating personnel, and, in fact, the potential for offensive actions. And from February to March, when the intensity was reduced, they were licking their wounds," Tregubov said.
He emphasized that there are two factors that help the enemy: green vegetation with the onset of heat - and also bad weather in April.
A key role in the pressure on Kupyansk is played by Golubivka, a settlement north of the city. It is from there that the Russians are trying to infiltrate.
Tregubov explained: while the enemy holds certain positions there, it is more difficult to destroy his units on the approaches to the city than before.
"We need to destroy the Russians trying to enter the city from the north, and it's a little more difficult than when Golubivka was more controlled. Here we are aware of the problem, here we are aware of how to deal with it, the only problem is that there are a lot of Russians," Tregubov explained.
The situation has also become more complicated in the east: on the eastern bank of the Oskil River, the enemy is actively moving towards Kupyansk-Vuzlovye from three sides at once.
As a reminder, on April 13, it was reported that Russian troops resumed active assault operations on the outskirts of Kupyansk, trying to displace the Armed Forces of Ukraine and advance towards the city.
