[Regnum] Israeli President Isaac Herzog intends to force Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to plead guilty instead of pardoning him in a corruption case.

Poor President Herzog, a paler copy of his eminent father, was the leader of the labour socialists when he lost the 2015 election for prime minister against Bibi, despite President Obama putting the thumb of US State Department funds and loaned Democratic Party election consultants on the scale — and then Bibi continued remaking Israel society and pretty consistently winning elections ever since, with some rare exceptions, despite all the protests and legal and political nonsense the Left has tried throwing at him. One would feel for the man, but really, this has gone on entirely too long. It’s time for him to admit defeat and move on. |
The New York Times also dislikes Bibi, for much the same reasons.The publication's sources claim that the Israeli leader has no plans to pardon Netanyahu in the near future.
"Instead, he will first attempt to initiate a mediation process to reach a plea agreement," officials said.
According to these reports, the President does not currently plan to respond to the Prime Minister's request for clemency. He believes the corruption case should be fully examined in court.

Netanyahu has pleaded not guilty. However, he has repeatedly sought postponements from testifying in court, citing the difficult situation in the country, which requires his personal involvement in national security matters.
On November 30, Netanyahu petitioned the Israeli president for clemency, arguing that ending the trials was necessary to strengthen national unity. US President Donald Trump supported this initiative. He sent a letter to Herzog urging him to consider the pardon and calling Netanyahu's prosecution politically motivated.
For his part, Herzog stated that the decision on a possible pardon for Netanyahu would not depend on public calls from the US President, as it falls exclusively within the competence of Israeli government agencies and would be considered in accordance with the procedure established by law, with the participation of the Ministry of Justice and the legal adviser to the presidential administration.
