[Regnum] Another American aircraft carrier will soon join the blockade of Iranian-linked merchant ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Pentagon Secretary Pete Hegseth made this statement at a press conference on April 24.
"A second aircraft carrier will join the blockade in just a few days," the US Secretary of War said.
The aircraft carrier in question is the USS George HW Bush. Hegseth stated that while the operation was previously regional in nature, it is now moving to a global level, involving significant naval forces. He noted that since the Strait of Hormuz blockade began, 34 vessels have already received orders to turn around and that the US Navy is enforcing the blockade "without hesitation."
The aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, along with more than 18 other warships, including guided-missile destroyers, large amphibious ships, and minesweepers, are currently on mission in the Arabian Sea.
On April 12, following the failure of talks with Iran in Islamabad, US President Donald Trump announced a naval blockade of Iranian ports. Two days later, US Central Command announced that not a single vessel had managed to breach the US blockade in the strait in the previous 24 hours. Six merchant vessels were ordered to return to an Iranian port in the Gulf of Oman.
