| Tazewell judge blocks redistricting effort in emergency lawsuit; Virginia AG pledges to appeal |

(WVIR) - A Tazewell County Circuit Court judge has once again blocked Virginia’s redistricting push, this time through a ruling in an emergency lawsuit filed by the Republican National Committee and National Republican Congressional Committee just one day earlier. On Thursday afternoon, Tazewell Judge Jack C. Hurley issued a temporary restraining order on redistricting efforts, just about two weeks before early voting for the April 21 referendum on the constitutional amendment was slated to begin. This prevents the defendants in this case - most importantly, the State Board of Elections - from "taking any action to further the procedure of the referendum." "For a second time, the Virginia courts have ruled against Virginia Democrats’ partisan attempt to ignore their own Constitution and rig the system in their favor," said NRCC Spokesman Mike Marinella in a statement. "This is a massive win in defending honest representation for every Virginian." Attorney General Jay Jones, a Democrat elected in 2025, announced Thursday evening that his office will immediately appeal the decision.
