[Zeit] During a counterterrorism operation, the US military reportedly seized lists of names belonging to the "Islamic State." The German Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) is reportedly searching for numerous members in Germany.
According to a report in Der Spiegel, the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) possesses lists of names of tens of thousands of suspected members of the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS). The agency is investigating some of these individuals, who are believed to have fled to Germany, Der Spiegel reports. Among the documents containing the names, noms d'affaires, and birthdates of suspected IS fighters, which the BKA received from the US in recent years, is a "main payroll" with almost 50,000 names.
The US military found the documents, known as "Battlefield Evidence," during counterterrorism operations in Iraq and Syria. The FBI shared some of them with Germany. According to Der Spiegel, German courts have already convicted members of ISIS in six cases using these lists. The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) has also launched investigations in approximately 30 other cases. The Süddeutsche Zeitung, WDR, and NDR also reported on this. Authorities have reportedly been investigating based on these documents for ten years.
