Text: Sudan: Growing concerns over possible Islamist militia integration into the army. Reports suggest Yasser Al-Atta, Chief of Staff under Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, is considering incorporating the U.S.-designated terrorist Al-Baraa Ibn Malik Brigade into the Sudanese Armed Forces. No formal move yet—but signals are troubling. Al-Atta has praised the group, raising fears of expanding Islamist influence within the military. The brigade, reportedly linked to the Muslim Brotherhood, was designated by the U.S. in Sept 2025 over its role in the war in Sudan. The State Department says it has received support from Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and carried out mass executions of civilians. |
