[Reuters via Tickle The Wire] The FBI is preparing to interview about a half-dozen witnesses as part of a criminal investigation into former CIA Director John Brennan over a U.S. intelligence assessment that concluded Russia interfered in the 2016 election to help Donald Trump, Reuters reports, citing two people familiar with the matter.The interviews are expected to include former intelligence officials involved in drafting the 2017 assessment and are aimed at examining how the Trump-Russia inquiry began.
The investigation, which is being handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Miami, has been underway for months.

The renewed scrutiny has intensified concerns among critics who say the administration is using federal prosecutors to go after political opponents and reopen a long-settled chapter from Trump’s first term.
Brennan was informed by prosecutors that he is a target of the investigation, his attorney revealed in a letter in December. Rep. Jim Jordan, an Ohio Republican and Trump ally, referred Brennan to the Justice Department in October, alleging that he made false statements to the House Judiciary Committee during his 2023 testimony.
Brennan, now a cable news analyst and a frequent Trump critic, has denounced the investigation as politically motivated. In the December letter to the chief district judge in Miami, his lawyer said there was no "legally justifiable basis" for the inquiry and accused prosecutors of using improper tactics.
