[Regnum] At least 76 new eruptions of the Dukono volcano were recorded in the past 24 hours on the Indonesian island of Halmahera. This was reported on April 7 by the Antara news agency, citing data from a volcanic observation post.
Ash reached a height of 1,400 meters above the volcano's crater, or 2,487 meters above sea level. The eruptions were accompanied by dense plumes of gray and white ash, spreading in a northwesterly direction.
"For the 76th earthquake with an eruption, the amplitude is 6-34 mm, the duration is 19.33-90.65 seconds. Meanwhile, continuous tremors (microtremors) with an amplitude of 1-6 mm (the dominant one is 4 mm) were recorded," said Bambang Sugyono, an observation post officer.
Local authorities advised residents and tourists to stay within a 4-kilometer radius of the volcano's crater and to wear masks to protect themselves from ash. Dukono's activity has been increasing since March 30 and continues to this day. On April 6, the eruption was recorded on seismograms with a maximum amplitude of 17 mm and a duration of 49.69 seconds.
In mid-March, a series of eruptions were recorded at Lewotobi Volcano in the southeastern part of the Indonesian island of Flora. Five eruptions occurred at the summit of Laki-laki, also known as Male Lewotobi. Gray smoke rose from the crater to heights of 800 to 2,000 meters. The volcano's activity was assigned a Level 3 alert status.
