[Regnum] Northern Fleet Aviation Commander Alexander Otroshchenko was killed in the crash of an An-26 transport plane in Crimea. Murmansk Region Governor Andrei Chibis announced this at a meeting with the regional government on April 6
"Last week, a tragedy occurred. Our soldiers, Northern Fleet soldiers, crashed in a plane in Crimea. Among them, unfortunately, was the commander of the naval aviation, Alexander Ivanovich Otroshchenko," he noted after a minute of silence that began the cabinet meeting.
An An-26 crashed on March 31 in the Bakhchisaray district, near the village of Kuibyshevo. There were 29 people on board the crashed aircraft, including seven crew members. All of them died. According to preliminary information, the plane crashed due to a technical malfunction. Another version suggests that the An-26 collided with a cliff. The Russian Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case under Article 351 of the Russian Criminal Code ("Violation of flight or preparation rules").
On April 1, Chibis reported that Northern Fleet servicemen had died in the plane crash. The regional governor expressed his condolences to the families of the victims. The governor also promised assistance and support for the victims' families.
