[Regnum] A leopard attacked sugarcane plantation workers in India for two days, injuring three young men. This was reported by the Lokmat Times newspaper.
The incidents occurred in the state of Maharashtra, each time attacking workers watering sugarcane. The leopard first attacked a plantation on March 28 and seriously injured a man. The following day, the predator attacked one worker in the morning, and another in the afternoon.
All three victims survived by fighting back and were taken to the hospital. The state forest department has begun efforts to capture the leopard, setting traps and surveying the area using drones.
Predator attacks on people are not uncommon in India. On March 24, in the Indian village of Meenaukhni, a leopard entered a house's yard, grabbed a newborn baby girl sleeping in her crib, and attempted to escape. Her mother noticed the animal and screamed. The child's father and neighbors rushed to the scene, but the predator, frightened by the crowd, dropped the baby. She suffered serious injuries and did not survive, despite the efforts of doctors.
In mid-March, in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, a leopard entered a utility room in the yard of a house and killed a guard dog. It then attacked the pet's 67-year-old owner when he approached. The man suffered injuries to his arm and head, but he managed to open the door, and the leopard escaped.
