Both Mrs. von der Leyen and her husband are physicians. They have seven children. Though he is a member of the aristocratic von der Leyen family, as far as I can tell he is not a scion of the baronial branch. The family made their money as silk weavers, so perhaps that is from where her attitude stems, unlike the more militarized segments of the aristocracy.
