[Regnum] NASA, together with the US Department of Energy, is preparing the technological foundation for expeditions to Mars and the outer solar system. This was stated in a statement published on the department's website on March 24.
According to the publication, the agencies are currently working to ensure the necessary capabilities for sustainable space exploration beyond the Moon.
NASA also added that, as part of this plan, the Space Reactor-1 Freedom spacecraft is scheduled to arrive on Mars by the end of 2028 to deploy the necessary infrastructure there, as well as Ingenuity-class drones for further exploration of the planet and the rest of the solar system.
Last March, American entrepreneur Elon Musk claimed that the Starship spacecraft would fly to Mars with the humanoid robot Optimus in late 2026. However, since early 2025, several Starship test flights have failed. Specifically, in June, SpaceX's Starship launch vehicle prototype exploded during a routine test in Texas.
