[Regnum] Unidentified drones surrounded the Barksdale air base in Louisiana, which houses B-52 long-range strategic bombers. This was reported by The Independent.
The incident occurred on March 9, but the publication only reported it on March 20. The military raised the alarm. Later, several waves of 12-15 drones were detected operating over "sensitive areas of the facility," including the runway.
The publication noted that the problem arose against the backdrop of growing concerns about the threat associated with the escalation in the Middle East.
Barksdale is the second-largest airfield in the United States Air Force, home to more than 40 B-52 bombers. Approximately 15,000 people live on the base, including active duty personnel, reservists, military families, and civilian employees.
On March 20, a drone attacked another American facility— Victoria Air Base in Iraq. Shortly before, a suicide drone carrying explosives was intercepted and shot down over a US military base near the airport in Erbil.
