A Michigan synagogue on Thursday posted photos on social media of major fire damage that occurred when an attacker drove a pickup truck into the building last week before killing himself.

. Photos reveal loose wires in the hallway, an exposed ceiling and blackened walls, including an array of celebratory photos ruined by fire. Sprinklers ran for hours.
The synagogue decided to share photos after an earlier release of law enforcement images was "incredibly triggering" to members of Temple Israel, Rabbi Josh Bennett told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named.
"We share these images because our community deserves to see our building through eyes of love, not through the lens of spectacle. This is our sacred space, and we will be the ones to tell its story," Temple Israel said on Facebook, sharing the images along with a link to contribute to rebuilding efforts.

41, rammed his pickup through a synagogue door on March 12, striking a security guard, after he sat in the parking lot for two hours. Security staff exchanged gunfire with him before he killed himself, the FBI said, noting that the truck had commercial-grade fireworks and several jugs of gasoline.No one else among the 150 children and staff was injured, Bennett said.
At a news conference organized by law enforcement and area faith leaders, he said the congregation of 3,500 families will eventually return to its house of worship in West Bloomfield Township.
"We will not be defined by the violence done to us. Rather, we will be defined by the values we carry forward," Bennett said Thursday. "We are grateful for this community ... for every voice that has spoken out. We ask that those voices do not fall silent."

"You don’t go into somebody’s house, or in this case a house of worship, and try to kill kids from zero to 5 because something happened in another part of the world," Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard said.
"You can’t justify that."
Detroit area FBI special agent in charge Jennifer Runyan told a press conference that Ghazali had "no previous criminal history and no registered weapons."
The New York Times reported Friday that on March 5, an Israeli airstrike in Lebanon killed Ghazali's brother Ibrahim and his brother's two young children, along with another brother Qassem.
Ghazali drove his grey Ford F150 truck into the synagogue and got it stuck in a hallway, where security guards opened fire, causing the vehicle's engine compartment to catch fire, Runyan said.
"At some point during the gunfight, Ghazali suffers a self-inflicted gunshot to the head," she said.
Investigators later found "large quantities of commercial-grade fireworks, and several jugs of flammable liquid we believe to be gasoline," she added.
The Times reported Ghazali attended a memorial for his slain family members in nearby Dearborn, Michigan, along with other grieving family members and mourners, many from the Lebanese village of Machghara.
Ghazali was born in Lebanon, came to Detroit in 2011 on a visa granted to spouses of U.S. citizens, and became a U.S. citizen himself in 2016, according to federal records.
The father of two teenagers divorced his wife, a pharmacist, in 2024, and until recently worked as a waiter, the Times reported.
Dearborn is home to one of the largest Arab American communities in the country, and memorials for those who have lost family in Lebanon to Israeli strikes "have become frequent," Imam Hassan Qazwini told the newspaper.
