[WCPO] A fire was visible from I-471 near Memorial Parkway in Northern Kentucky near Newport Friday night.
According to the Campbell County Office of Emergency Management, all lanes northbound and southbound on I-471 and Memorial Parkway would be closed for an undetermined amount of time due to a "vehicle fire."
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) said the interstate north of the Memorial Parkway exit will be blocked until further notice.
KYTC said bridge inspectors will review bridges near the area and those, along with traffic lanes on the interstate, will reopen following the analysis from bridge engineers.
We spoke to Campbell County dispatch, who said an explosion had happened. Dispatch could not confirm what caused the explosion or if any injuries had been reported.
A section of Interstate 471 in Newport will be closed for several hours after a crash between a vehicle and fuel tanker led to a massive fire late Friday.
The crash occurred at approximately 10:10 p.m. March 13 near the overpass for Memorial Parkway, city officials said in a statement to WLWT 5. The overpass serves as the exit for the Newport Pavilion shopping center.
Waiting to see if this was just an accident or if there was nefarious intent.

The Campbell County Coroner's Office posted on Facebook that all individuals involved in the crash are accounted for, and that there are no reported fatalities.
The Cincinnati Fire Department confirmed that a crash with an oil tanker and a car caused the explosion. |
