[Regnum] Over the past 20 years, Russian intelligence agencies have prevented over 1,000 terrorist attacks and eliminated over 2,500 militants. This was announced by Alexander Bortnikov, Chairman of the National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAC) and Director of the FSB, at a meeting of the National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAC) on March 10.
"In just two decades, as a result of the coordinated actions of law enforcement agencies in the Russian Federation, more than 1,000 terrorist attacks have been prevented, over 2,500 bandits have been eliminated, and 17,000 of their accomplices have been detained," the head of the department explained in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta, timed to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the Anti-Terrorism Committee.
In addition, Bortnikov added, approximately 18,000 weapons, 71,000 rounds of ammunition, 25 tons of explosives, and more than 5,000 improvised explosive devices were seized from illegal circulation.
Bortnikov previously reported that 79 terrorist cells were disrupted in Russia in 2025, with 27 terrorists killed while offering armed resistance. Attempts to use homemade bombs and firearms on public transport in dense passenger traffic, as well as the bombing of an apartment building, were also thwarted. Furthermore, the head of the National Anti-Corruption Agency (NAC) added that the security measures taken prevented several further attempted attacks on the Crimean Bridge.
The FSB Public Relations Center reported that, as of September 1, 2025, the Federal Security Service (FSB) blocked over 100 communication channels used by Ukrainian intelligence agencies to recruit Russians for sabotage and remote fraud. The blocked channels were also used to widely disseminate false terrorist threats.
