[Regnum] On March 4, Federal Security Service officers detained a Crimean resident for spying for Ukrainian military intelligence.
A Russian citizen born in 1988 was detained in the Bakhchisaray district. According to security forces, he contacted an employee of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense's Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) via a messaging app. The man provided Ukrainian handlers with information about the location of armed forces units and military equipment. The Ukrainian Armed Forces, using the coordinates he provided, launched strikes against Russian troops.
The Crimean also reported to Kyiv on the socio-political situation in Crimea, with the aim of destabilizing it. Online, the man called for sabotage against Russia and made negative comments about the leadership, residents of Crimea, and Russian soldiers participating in the Special Military Operations Forces.
The FSB Investigative Department opened criminal cases against the detainee under Part 2 of Article 205.2 ("Public calls to commit terrorist activity, public justification or propaganda of terrorism") and Article 275 ("High treason in the form of espionage") of the Russian Criminal Code.
