[Regnum] A giant solar prominence has been detected on the Sun. This was reported on March 3 by scientists at the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
"The measured dimensions of the plasma structure near the Sun were approximately 1 million km. This is three times greater than the distance from the Earth to the Moon," the laboratory stated in a message on its Telegram channel.
As experts noted, such objects, due to the significant density of matter and the influence of powerful magnetic fields, are considered among the most dangerous factors of space weather.
Scientists emphasized that the current event poses no threat to Earth or other celestial bodies. This is due to the plasma mass's nearly vertical trajectory.
