[BBC] Sunday before dawn, fighting lasted 3-4 hours before government forces drove them out. Dozens of unidentified youths from neighbouring Unity State linked to the Sudan Peoples Liberation Army in Opposition (SPLA-IO) in Abiemnon county in the Ruweng Administrative Area. The dead included civilians and 79 members of regional forces including police.
| SPLA-IO is a South Sudanese Social Democrat a center-left political party and rebel group for the Nuers, the second largest ethnic group in S. Sudan — known for cattle herding. It split from the Sudan People's Liberation Movement in 2013 due to political tensions between President Salva Kiir and Vice President Riek Machar over leadership of the SPLM — the VP went with the new group, followed by the South Sudanese Civil War. |
