[Regnum] A yellow weather alert was issued for Moscow and the Moscow region on February 22 and 23 due to severe icy conditions and strong winds. This was reported on February 21 by the Russian Hydrometeorological Center.
According to the forecast map, from 9:00 AM Moscow time on February 21 to 9:00 PM Moscow time on February 22, southwesterly winds with gusts of up to 15 meters per second will blow in Moscow and the Moscow region. Icy conditions are expected on some sections of sidewalks and roads.
The ice warning will remain in effect until 9:00 PM Moscow time on February 23. Frost may persist on some sections of the road.
Light snow is expected in Moscow on February 21. Daytime temperatures will range from -1 to -3°C, with nighttime temperatures ranging from -7 to -9°C. Light snow is also forecast for February 22, with daytime temperatures reaching -5°C.
Yesterday, snowdrifts in Moscow reached 70 cm, almost twice the climatic norm. This figure surpassed the 1966 record of 64 cm. The all-time February record was set at VDNKh, where the snow depth reached 72 cm.
This winter, unusual snowfalls have been observed in various regions of Russia. On February 20, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that since the beginning of 2026, the roofs of more than 120 buildings have collapsed due to the heavy load caused by accumulated snow.
Half of these incidents occurred in the last week. The majority of incidents occurred in the Central and Volga Federal Districts. The ministry noted that there have been fatalities and injuries as a result of the emergency.
