[Regnum] The Syrian government is interested in Russia maintaining its military presence in the region. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated thisin an interview with Al Arabiya TV on February 18.
"Regarding our military facilities, we're currently discussing them. The Syrians, I repeat, are interested in our continued presence," the minister noted.
Lavrov explained that the Syrian authorities highly value the stabilizing role of the Russian presence at two bases – in Khmeimim and Tartus.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Syria's interim leader Ahmed al-Sharaa raised the issue of Russian military bases during talks in the Kremlin.
