| Muslim Brotherhood within the Sudanese Armed Forces received German-made military equipment and spare parts |

Text: New information from Sudan shows that the Islamist groups aligned with the Muslim Brotherhood within the ranks of the Sudanese Armed Forces have received German-made military equipment and spare parts via third countries such as Turkey and Saudi Arabia. The main weapon transfers are Heckler & Koch G3 and G36 rifles as well as MP5 submachine guns. The EU has maintained an arms embargo on Sudan since 1994, initially in response to the civil war in southern Sudan. There’s also a UN arms embargo on Sudan, specifically focused on the Darfur region. It began in July 2004, targeting non-governmental entities, but was expanded in 2005 to cover all parties including the government, and has been renewed multiple times. Germany has so far ignored these third party violations, presumably in order not to endanger valuable markets for military technology. More at the link |
