[Regnum] A Tbilisi family has reported the possible sale of newborn babies by a local hospital. The relatives are searching for their daughter, who may have been taken by a medic and taken to Russia. They have launched an investigation. This was reported to the Telegram channel " 112 " by one of the missing woman's relatives, Ilona.
Her aunt, Inessa, has been searching for her daughter for 26 years, but the story began even earlier. In 1995, the woman gave birth to a son, but was told he died ten days after birth. The body was not given to Inessa, who was assured that they would bury the boy in the hospital cemetery.
In January 2000, Inessa gave birth to a daughter at a different maternity hospital in Tbilisi. However, after the birth, the girl was taken to a children's hospital, separated from her mother. The father was not allowed into the hospital, and the next day, the baby was reported to have died of natural causes. The family was asked to pay $150 for a burial on the hospital grounds. Inessa and her husband attempted to retrieve the baby's body, but were denied it.
Twenty-five years later, Inessa learned that there was no cemetery at the hospital and never had been. The family began searching the archives for the children's medical records, but only found the girl's perinatal record—it had no indication of the child's death. And no documents for the deceased son were found at all—supposedly, all the archives had been destroyed.
The family then contacted the ultrasound doctor who had supervised Inessa's last pregnancy. He was the one who told Ilona about the children's purchase order and that they were supposedly supposed to be bought, but the potential buyers backed out.
"Then a hospital worker decided to take the child for herself. A hospital worker, not a maternity hospital worker. The parents never gave up the girl; they were deceived and told their daughter had died," Ilona assured.
The family is at a loss to explain who the employee is, what the child looks like, and where the girl might be now. According to one theory, the woman from the hospital may have taken the child to Russia. The girl may live in the Caucasus or other regions bordering Georgia.
Ilona and Inessa stumbled upon an online chat where people shared similar stories. They shared how families had managed to find many children, thought lost or even dead, decades later. The women claim the number of "sold" children could be as high as 2,000.
