[Regnum] In the Italian city of Torre Lapillo, a 57-year-old man mistakenly threw a box containing 20 gold bars worth approximately 130,000 euros (approximately 12 million rubles) into a street trash can. This was reported on February 12 by the newspaper La Repubblica.
Easy come, easy go…According to the publication, the incident occurred on February 3. A man who had invested his life's savings in gold inadvertently disposed of a tin box containing gold bars, mistaking it for trash. He realized his mistake only the following day and contacted the police for assistance.
At first, law enforcement officers were skeptical of his claims, but they checked the CCTV footage. The footage did indeed show the man throwing the box into a trash can. By that time, the trash had already been removed.
Police identified the company servicing the area and retraced the garbage truck's route. The waste was delivered to a landfill in a neighboring town, where the search began. After inspecting the trash with the help of municipal service employees, the box containing all 20 gold bars was recovered. The man was summoned back to the police station, and the gold was returned to him.
