[Regnum] Moderately frosty weather is expected in Moscow starting February 16, according to Marina Makarova, a leading official at the Russian Hydrometeorological Center.
"The cold snap will begin in the northwestern regions of European Russia, with a cold front moving in from the northwest. Temperatures will gradually decrease, first in the northwestern regions and then towards the southeast," the specialist told Interfax.
According to Makarova, severe frosts are not forecast for the capital in the coming days, although in some areas, with clearings, temperatures could drop to minus 20 degrees Celsius at night.
On February 9, Honored Meteorologist of Russia Roman Vilfand reported that temperatures in Moscow would be 7-9 degrees below normal in the coming days. This is because, although air masses are coming from the west, they still originate in northern regions and are inherently cold. The forecaster explained that horizontal air movement determines the temperature regime in the central European part of Russia.
