| [Daily Mail, where America gets its news] A giant mushroom-shaped fireball tore through the sky after a fuel wagon exploded on a Russian train travelling along a key war supply route. The dramatic blast erupted in the Tambov region after a train derailment, triggering a towering inferno that sent flames soaring more than 1,000ft into the air. The cause of the spectacular explosion was not immediately clear, but sabotage linked to the war in Ukraine was suspected, according to reports. The railway line is a vital artery for heavy freight traffic, handling large volumes of fuel, military equipment and bulk supplies, and plays a crucial role in transporting goods towards southern Russia. The explosion occurred at Kochetovka-2 station on the strategic Moscow–Voronezh–Rostov route, which is known to carry fuel, ammunition, equipment and other essential supplies. Around 30 rail wagons were reportedly damaged in the blast. Analysts described the route as essential for sustaining operations in southern and south-western directions, including areas close to the Ukrainian border. The explosion caused immediate disruption, with at least eight intercity trains delayed. Among those affected were services running between Moscow and Russian-occupied Crimea. There were no initial reports of casualties. |
