| Destroyer Delbert D. Black now in Red Sea following Lincoln Strike Group shift to Middle East |

| [USNI] USS Delbert D. Black (DDG-119) is now in the Red Sea, adding to the increased U.S. presence in the Middle East, USNI News has learned. A Navy official confirmed the destroyer crossed into the Red Sea this week. USNI News’ Fleet and Marine Tracker had Delbert D. Black in the Mediterranean Sea as of Monday, having departed Jan. 9 from Naval Station Norfolk, Va. With the arrival of Delbert D. Black, the U.S. has at least 10 ships across the U.S. Central Command. On Tuesday, President Donald Trump posted on his social media site TruthSocial that a “massive armada” was heading to Iran, claiming it was a larger fleet than what the U.S. sent to Venezuela. “A massive Armada is heading to Iran. It is moving quickly, with great power, enthusiasm and purpose. It is a larger fleet, headed by the great Aircraft Carrier Abraham Lincoln, than that sent to Venezuela. Like with Venezuela, it is ready, willing and able to rapidly fulfill [sic] its mission with speed and violence, if necessary,” reads Trump’s post. The naval warships operating in the Middle East include the Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group, which is currently in the Arabian Sea. The strike group consists of aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) and destroyers USS Frank E. Petersen, Jr. (DDG-121), USS Michael Murphy (DDG-112) and USS Spruance (DDG-111). |
