[Regnum] The risk of repeated magnetic storms remains on Earth in the next 24 hours. This was reported on January 29 by the press service of the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
According to scientists, the geomagnetic environment remains moderately disturbed. Short-term geomagnetic disturbances and a weak magnetic storm were recorded yesterday.
The Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences explained that the increase in solar wind speed and temperature is due to the influence of a coronal hole. Despite its small size, it has a noticeable impact on Earth due to its favorable location relative to the planet. Earth will remain in its zone of influence for about a day, during which time short-term geomagnetic disturbances and repeated magnetic storms are possible.
Active regions that previously caused strong flares may also appear on the side of the sun visible from Earth within 24 hours. Therefore, scientists are not ruling out a gradual increase in solar activity.
Experts previously warned that Earth could expect an increased number of magnetic storms in 2026. They estimate that coronal holes on the Sun, whose number has increased significantly recently and continues to influence space weather, remain a key factor in geomagnetic disturbances.
