"On January 18, the capital region will feel the influence of the northeastern periphery of the retreating anticyclone. In this situation, cloudy weather with intermittent clearings and no significant precipitation is expected. Meanwhile, the peak of pre-Epiphany frosts, which occurred this weekend, has passed, and temperatures will begin to gradually rise," he noted in the publication.
According to the weather forecaster, daytime temperatures in Moscow on January 19 will be between -5 and -7°C. Light snow is possible in some areas, Leus added.
Earlier, Roman Vilfand, scientific director of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, reported that severe frosts down to -50 degrees Celsius are expected in the Ural and Siberian regions. The significant drop in temperature is due to the arrival of the East Siberian anticyclone, he explained.
